We are not looking for the most polished application.
We are looking for the work, the thought behind it, the commitment to continue and the possibility that the right support at the right moment can make a meaningful difference.
The work comes first.
Recognition, representation, market success, social media followers or knowing someone at DRS Arts Company® does not place an artist ahead in the process.

-
Application review
Every application is first checked by the DRS Arts Grant team to ensure that the required information and material have been submitted.
This stage is only about completing the application. It is not an artistic judgement.
-
Jury review
Eligible applications are placed before the Jury. The Jury considers the application as a whole, including:
- Quality of work
- Clarity of thought
- Seriousness and commitment to practice
- Artistic direction and future potential
- What the artist is proposing to do next
- Whether the Grant can make a meaningful difference at this stage of the practice
For the Ravindra Salve Promising Artist Award, particular consideration is given to originality, commitment and future potential.
-
Shortlist
A group of applicants may be shortlisted for the next stage. Shortlisting does not mean the artist has to prepare another elaborate presentation.
We already asked you to tell us about yourself once. We do not intend to make you do it all over again.
-
A conversation
Shortlisted artists may be invited for an online conversation, an in-person meeting or, where appropriate, a studio visit.
This is not an examination. It is simply an opportunity for the Jury to understand the artist, the practice and the proposed direction beyond what can fit inside an application form.
Additional information or clarification may be requested where necessary.
-
Final selection
The Jury considers the applications, submitted works and shortlisted conversations before arriving at the final selection. Selected artists are then contacted by DRS Arts Company® to complete the required verification and documentation.
For Grant recipients, the proposed work, timeline and needs of the artist are considered before deciding whether the support is best released monthly, quarterly or in a single payment.
The Ravindra Salve Promising Artist Award is presented as a one-time award of ₹30,000.
One last thing
Not being selected in one cycle is not a judgement on an artist's future.
Sometimes it is the work. Sometimes it is the proposal. Sometimes it is simply the particular moment.
Artists are welcome to return with what comes next.
